‘Making a Murderer’ Appeal Is Finally Going to Be Heard

It’s reported that a federal appeals court will be considering arguments about whether or not detectives tricked a Wisconsin inmate into confessing, and if he should go free, all of which were spotlighted on Netflix’s Making a Murderer.

As Page Six reports, oral arguments in Brendan Dassey’s case are before all 12 judges of the 7th Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals in Chicago. Both his lawyers and state attorneys will speak for half an hour answering the judge’s questions, and ruling might not come for several weeks.

Currently, 27-year-old Brendan is sentenced to life in prison for the death of photographer Teresa Halback. He was only 16 when he told detectives that he helped his uncle, Steven Avery, rape and kill Teresa in the family’s junkyard — though the docuseries suggested policemen pulled the confession out of him, seeing as Brendan is special needs.

The case gained attention from the 2015 Netflix show Making a Murderer, which suggested both he and Steven’s innocence.
