Kelly Clarkson On Why She’s Judging ‘The Voice’ Rather Than ‘American Idol’

People were a bit surprised to find that Kelly Clarkson is judging The Voice rather than the show that made her a household name, American Idol — which is getting a reboot on ABC this season.

As she explained to Entertainment Tonight, “Think of how I felt,” she joked. “[But] I’ve been in talks with The Voice about doing stuff for years. It’s a family decision too, for us. Like, my husband [Brandon Blackstock] manages Blake [Shelton] so we’re all in one place and it’s going to be good. And I’m excited, ya’ll.”

She also reiterated that she and Ryan Seacrest have no hard feelings. “I had to interview with Ryan Seacrest recently, it was so weird,” she shared. “We’ve never been on, like, opposing networks and so it was funny. We had a good laugh about it.”

As for her sense of competition: “I don’t like to lose, let’s be real. The reason why I didn’t is because I found out, Justin [Guarini] and I both found out that last week, that whoever won had to do this movie.”
