J.J. Abrams is Returning to Write/Direct ‘Star Wars: Episode IX’

J.J. Abrams is returning to write and direct Star Wars: Episode IX, replacing Colin Trevorrow, who dropped out as director last week.

J.J. will cowrite the script with Chris Terrio, who wrote the script for Argo.

Star Wars fans were freaking out when Colin left, so the news of J.J. coming on board is likely to lift their spirits, seeing as he partnered with The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi’s Lawrence Kasdan while producing the first film in the trilogy.

This will make J.J. the first filmmaker (besides George Lucas) to direct more than one installment of the franchise.
