Gwyneth Paltrow is narrating the new Man in Red Bandana, a new documentary about a young hero who died saving others during 9/11. And as it turns out, his uncle ended up drastically impacting her own life.

As she told People, the actress never heard of Welles Remy Crowther before working on the film. Turns out, Welles’s dad, Jefferson, said that Welles’s uncle was a friend of Bruce Paltrow, Gwyneth’s dad.

“He said his brother and Bruce Paltrow were in the theater together and did plays together, went drinking together and cashed their unemployment checks together,” said filmmaker Matthew Weiss. “Unbelievable…”

And it gets better…

Welles’s uncle, John Crowther, was the one who introduced Gwyneth’s parents!

“He went one day to see Bruce, who was doing an Off-Broadway show, and looked at the actresses that were auditioning in that coming week and on the list was Blythe Danner… So Welles’s uncle introduced Paltrow’s parents to her. It’s unbelievable.”

Matthew showed Gwyneth some pictures he got from John, and she was deeply moved: “She was very excited to see an old photo of her dad that she had never seen before… She had a little tear in her eye.”
