Creators of ‘Will & Grace’ Sent a Box Set of DVDs to Joe Biden

In case you didn’t know, Will & Grace is back on NBC this fall — and it’s going to be epic!

In the latest cover story with The Advocate magazine, the show’s creators Max Mutchnick and David Kohan revealed that they sent then-Vice President Joe Biden a box set after he announced his support for marriage equality on NBC’s Meet the Press in 2012, mentioning W&G as being a trailblazer.

“I think Will & Grace probably did more to educate the American public [on LGBT issues] than almost anything anybody has ever done so far,” Joe Biden said at the time.

“I just was gobsmacked. Besides the birth of my son, I think that was the proudest moment of my life,” Debra Messing told The Advocate.

At the time, Barak Obama had yet to evolve to support same-sex marriage, so the cocreatorrs sent the DVD box set to Joe, writing: “We assume you already have this, so you should take your old set, give it to the president, and you should keep this new set.”

“I’ve always found the statement of ‘evolving’ on the issue to be totally homophobic,” Max said. “I think it’s as bad as any insult you can make to a minority. Could you imagine if I ever said to the president of the United States that I was evolving on race issues?”

As far as sending a box set to Donald Trump: “I don’t think there’s a heart and a mind to win over in the White House right now,” David said.
