When Kathy Griffin made headlines after being featured in a photo holding a bloodied head resembling Donald Trump, it was evident a lot of her friends might back away — such was the case of Anderson Cooper.

In an interview with The Cut, Kathy confirmed she no longer is friends with the CNN host, whom she co-hosted New Year’s Eve with.

Initially, Anderson had tweeted: “For the record, I am appalled by the photo shoot Kathy Griffin took part in. It is clearly disgusting and completely inappropriate.” We now know that he did not reach out to Kathy before tweeting that statement.

Days after the photo, the Secret Service opened an investigation and she was fired rom CNN’s NYE broadcast.

Kathy told The Cut that Anderson later tried to reach out over a series of text messages, and it was her who told him their friendship was over.

A source close to Anderson told The Cut he was “shocked and upset by the photo, and while he was not ready to talk to her personally about it, he still considered her to be a friend, and was publicly supportive when asked about the controversy.”
