Family of Deceased ‘Walking Dead’ Stuntman Is Ready to Sue

The mother of John Bernecker, the stuntman who died on the set of The Walking Dead last month after a fall, hired an attorney — and he’s a really good one.

Page Six reports the attorney she hired is Jeffrey R. Harris, who won an $11.2 million verdict in the case of the Midnight Rider train fatality. John’s mom, Susan, is expected to file a lawsuit in the next few weeks.

“Accidents like that do not happen on a production without some mistake being made,” Jeffrey told Variety in July. “That’s a self-evident principle of law.”

John Bernecker was an experienced stuntman with a  long list of credits, and in a scene where he was supposed to fall from a balcony, he failed to get clean separation from the balcony and seemed to try to abort the fall, a report said. That’s when he fell backward onto the concrete, landing on his head and neck.

There was a prior injury on the set of The Walking Dead in 2013, when a military vehicle ran over an actor and fractured his pelvis.
