Taylor Swift Skipped the VMAs, Hosted by Her Nemesis Katy Perry
Despite that Taylor Swift was nominated for several awards, she skipped out on the VMAs, which were hosted by her friend-turned-enemy Katy Perry — and now many are wondering if it was intentional.
When “I Don’t Wanna Live Forever” won Best Collaboration, the song’s co-writers Jack Anonoff and Sam Dew accepted the trophy without Taylor. At the end, when Katy Perry performed “Swish Swish,” there was no mention of Taylor.
In a 2014 interview with Rolling Stone, Taylor referenced Katy, saying she was trying to “sabotage” her tour. “She did something so horrible,” she said. “I was like, ‘Oh, we’re just straight-up enemies.’ And it wasn’t even about a guy! It had to do with business. She basically tried to sabotage an entire arena tour. She tried to hire a bunch of people out from under me. And I’m surprisingly non-confrontational — you would not believe how much I hate conflict. So now I have to avoid her. It’s awkward, and I don’t like it.”
