Beloved ‘Cheers’ & ‘Murphy Brown’ Star Jay Thomas Dies at 69

The Emmy-winning actor known for sitcoms like Cheers and Murphy Brown has died of cancer at 69.

Jay Thomas was a versatile performer, and according to his Publicist Tom Estey, “Jay Thomas was one of the funniest and kindest men I have had the honor to call both client and friend for 25 years plus. He will be dearly missed by so many.”

Starting his career in radio, further inspiring an annual Christmastime appearance on Late Night With David Letterman, he also appeared on Mork & Mindy, Love & War, and Ray Donovan, as well as films like Mr. Holland’s Opus, Straight Talk, and The Santa Clause 2 and 3.
