Would You Watch a Movie About a Sexy Beach Rat on the Down Low?

It looks like toxic masculinity and down low dudes are cinema’s latest meal ticket — not that I’m complaining!

Director Eliza Hittman’s Beach Rats follows the structure (somewhat) of Barry Jenkins’ Moonlight, which won an Oscar this year for Best Picture, only this time it’s far away from Florida and takes place at Brooklyn’s Coney Island.

Beach Rats is making shockwaves across film festivals, and Eliza won a directing award at Sundance.

The movie is getting serious word of mouth due to the “hot gay sex” its star Harris Dickinson (who plays Frankie) has throughout the movie. The film follows him as he suffers through toxic masculine meathead friends while also navigating his own sexuality amidst a kinda-sorta girlfriend and stern mother.

The movie comes out August 25. Watch the trailer:
