Robert Downey Jr. might soon call it quits on the red armored suit.

The actor, who has played Iron Man Tony Stark since 2008, wants to quit while he’s ahead. He told News Corp Australia Network:

“It’s this cyclical thing. I could have said when the first ‘Avengers’ came out: ‘It’s never going to get any better than that. Everybody stop.’ But to me, it’s always about people and opportunities, like the (‘Avengers’ directors Anthony and Joe) Russos, who I adore.”

The star wants to go out proudly. He said:

“Everyone says to me it’s like a glove that fits so well. I have to start over every time but I am starting over with a pretty solid base. I just never want to blow it for the last six or seven (Marvel Cinematic Universe movies) I have done by dropping the ball because I decided to go do it one more time. I just want to hang up my jersey before it’s embarrassing.”

The 52-year-old has starred in the Iron Man solo films, as well as Captain America: Civil War, Spider-Man: Homecoming, and many Avengers films. He will return next year for Infinity War with Spider-Man (Tom Holland), Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), Captain Marvel (Brie Larson), Star-Lord (Chris Pratt), Captain America (Chris Evans), Gamora (Zoe Saldana), and Dr. Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch).

Spider-Man: Homecoming premiers on July 7.
