Ed Sheeran Quit Twitter, And This Is Why

Oh, internet trolls, how you ruin things for everyone.

Ed Sheeran has decided that he will no longer use Twitter because of abusive comments from people that “ruins your day.”

The singer told The Sun:

“I’ve actually come off Twitter completely. I can’t read it. I go on it and there’s nothing but people saying mean things. Twitter’s a platform for that. One comment ruins your day. But that’s why I’ve come off it. The head-f*** for me has been trying to work out why people dislike me so much.”

Though the superstar has 19.2 million followers on the social media site, Ed has decided he’s better off without it. Sadly, he is one of many celebrities to make this decision due to online abuse. Lily Allen took a break from Twitter saying,  “My timeline is full of the most disgusting, sexist, misogynistic, racist shit,” while Normani Kordei of Fifth Harmony announced in 2016, “I’ve been racially cyberbullied with tweets and pictures so horrific and racially charged that I can’t subject myself any longer to the hate.” Even Lena Dunham, who’s no stranger to controversy, said the social site “wasn’t a safe space for me.”

Can’t say we blame them.

Hopefully the troll trend will turn around before the Twitter tide completely turns.
