Gayle King is truly a success story. The woman has seen many things in her long reporting career, and during a screening of HBO’s The Defiant Ones (the Jommy Lovine/Dr. Dre documentary), she opened up to Page Six about a moment in her early career.

“I applied for a reporter training program in Washington, DC,” she said. “I worked at the station, so I figured I had the inside track, and I did not get the job.”

She continued: “I went in to see the boss . . . He was sitting in his office with his feet on the desk. I said, ‘I do not understand why I did not get this job. I know I get along well with people here.’ And he said, ‘Gayle, you are right about all those things . . . But you know what? Life ain’t fair.’ Then he said, ‘Anything else?’ ”

After that, she apparently “crawled” out of the office, but now says it was “such a good lesson.”
