Adele’s touring days may have ended even sooner than she thought.

Just days after announcing to fans via a letter in the program of her Wednesday night concert in Wembley, U.K. that this tour would likely be her last, the superstar gave another heartbreaking statement. After the second of four shows she was set to perform there, Adele saw her throat doctor, who confirmed her vocal chords are damaged. The diagnosis forced the star to cancel the final two performances.

In a letter written to her fans, Adele wrote, “To say I’m heart broken would be a complete understatement.” She went on to explain that the tour has taken a major toll on her voice, despite the medications and steroids she has been taking. She revealed that though she desperately wanted to complete the tour and be there for her fans, she couldn’t deliver what she would want to, adding, “I simply can’t crumble in front of you all and walk out on you in that way.” Read the whole letter below:

The singer promised fans a refund if the shows are unable to be rescheduled, and closed the letter writing, “I love you. I’m so sorry. Please forgive me.”

Get well soon, Adele!
