Stephen Colbert Defends CNN, Says Trump is ‘Guilty of Fake News’

During his monologue on The Late Show last night, Stephen Colbert defended CNN after President Trump spewed another accusation at the network, calling it “fake news.”

“This is CNN’s worst mistake since their short-lived spinoff, Wolf Blitzer’s Rockin’ Situation Garage,” Stephen joked.

CNN was forced to pull a story about Congress investigating a Russian investment fund with ties to Trump officials, causing three journalists to resign, reports Entertainment Weekly.

“CNN says that the retraction does not mean the facts of the story were necessarily wrong, but they pulled the story because standard editorial processes were not followed,” Stephen said. “Yes, it’s a fine story — they just forgot to call it ‘breaking news’ and have a countdown clock… There is one person who’s guilty of fake news out there. It’s Donald Trump.”

He also mentioned an article in The Washington Post showing that Donald Trump actually has a fake Time magazine cover hanging on the walls: “Trump made his own Time magazine cover?” he exclaimed. “My god, that can only mean he’s acquired mall kiosk technology.”
