Swedish actor Michael Nyqvist, who starred in the original Swedish film adaptation of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo trilogy, passed away on Tuedsay. He was 56.

In a statement published in Variety, the star’s representative said:

“It is with deep sadness that I can confirm that our beloved Michael, one of Sweden’s most respected and accomplished actors, has passed away quietly surrounded by family after a year-long battle with lung cancer.”

Michael was best known for playing villains, which he also did in John Wick and Mission Impossible – Ghost Protocol.

Michael also wrote several books, including 2010’s”Just After Dreaming,” an autobiography about his search for his biological parents.
