Ariana Grande to be the Very First Honorary Citizen of Manchester!

It was announced on BBC that Ariana Grande is going to receive Manchester’s very first honorary citizenship title, thanks to her response to the May 22 bombing after her Dangerous Woman tour in the city, which killed 22 people and injured over 100.

Thanks to the singer, the city raised #3.5 million for the We Love Manchester Emergency Fund set up by the city council and the British Red Cross.

According to city council leader Sir Richard Leese, many people have already considered Ariana “an honorary Mancunian.” He tells the BBC, “We’ve all had cause to be incredibly proud of Manchester and the resilient and compassionate way in which the city, and all those associated with it, have responded to the terrible events of 22 May – with love and courage rather than hatred and fear.”

He added that the singer “exemplified this response,” before noting that the council has proposed an update to the way individuals make “noteworthy contributions” to the city. Ariana will also be the first honorary citizen to be from outside the Greater Manchester area.
