Derek Fisher is lucky to be alive, and he knows it.

The former Los Angeles Lakers player and ex-New York Knicks head coach and his “Basketball Wives” star girlfriend Gloria Govan were involved in a serious car crash on Sunday.

According to the California Highway Patrol, Derek’s 2015 Cadillac veered onto a shoulder on the U.S. 101 in the Sherman Oaks area of Los Angeles while they were approaching an interchange. The car struck the concrete curb and guardrail, causing it to overturn and land on it’s roof, blocking two lanes of the freeway. Officers discovered that Derek had been drinking and after a DUI test, the 42-year-old was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol.

In a joint statement released after the arrest on Sunday, Derek and Gloria said they were “beyond grateful that we are both OK and no one else was involved,” and thanked supporters for their thoughts and prayers.
