Chloë Grace Moretz Is ‘Appalled’ At Her New Film’s Body-Shaming Ad
The new Snow White parody Red Shoes & The 7 Dwarfs is making headlines, but for all the wrong reasons.
Yesterday, we told you about how Tess Holliday spoke out against the movie’s campaign poster’s terrible message. The supermodel took issue with the the image of a tall, slim heroine standing next to a heavier, shorter version of herself with the tagline, “What if Snow White was no longer beautiful and the 7 Dwarfs not so short?”
Now, one of the film’s stars, Chloë Grace Moretz, is sharing her outrage as well. Chloë voices the princess in question. She is horrified by the movie ad, something she had no awareness of or control over. She took to Twitter to apologize in a series of tweets. See below:
I have now fully reviewed the mkting for Red Shoes, I am just as appalled and angry as everyone else, this wasn’t approved by me or my team

Pls know I have let the producers of the film know. I lent my voice to a beautiful script that I hope you will all see in its entirety https://t.co/IOIXYZTc3g

The actual story is powerful for young women and resonated with me. I am sorry for the offense that was beyond my creative control https://t.co/HZP2ydPCAX

The South Korean producers of the movie, animation studio Locus, have now done away with the campaign. In a statement to Entertainment Weekly, producer Sujin Hwang said:
“Our film, a family comedy, carries a message designed to challenge social prejudices related to standards of physical beauty in society by emphasizing the importance of inner beauty. We appreciate and are grateful for the constructive criticism of those who brought this to our attention. We sincerely regret any embarrassment or dissatisfaction this mistaken advertising has caused.”
