Bill Cosby’s Jury Selection Is Not Going So Well

Today marked day three of the jury selection for Bill Cosby’s upcoming sexual assault trial. So far, 11 jurors have been chosen, and the hunt is on for the 12th spot.

Of the eleven people selected, only one is black. Bill’s lawyers have claimed that prosecutors are trying to keep black people off the jury, but statistically speaking, only 13% of people in Allegheny County identify as black, so it is a consistent ratio, according to the Associated Press.

Half of the new pool of around 93 people said they have already formed an opinion on Bill’s guilt or innocence. The pool has a total of 3 black men and 8 black women.

The jury must also choose 6 alternates before they can break in preparation of the June 5 trial, which will take place in Montgomery County, where Cosby had invited Andrea Constand to his home in 2004. Andrea alleges that Bill gave her wine and pills and then molested her on his couch.  He claims the encounter was consensual. If convicted, the actor faces up to 30 years in prison.
