Grunge Legend, Chris Cornell, is Dead at 52 (Possible Suicide)

One of the founding fathers of grunge, Chris Cornell, died in the early hours last night after a sold-out performance in Detroit. Now his death is being investigated as a possible suicide.

The 52-year old rose to fame as the lead singer of the bands Soundgarden and later Audioslave. He’d just finished a show with Soundgarden when he was found dead in his hotel room at the MGM Grand Detroit.

His rep. Brian Brumberry confirmed the news and said it was “sudden and unexpected.”

According to police spokesman Michael Woody, Chris’s wife had asked a friend to check on him when the friend forced the hotel door open and found Chris on the bathroom floor. Authorities say there are “basic things” that point to it as suicide.

In the 1990s, Chis was a leading voice of the grunge scene and rose to fame with the Seattle-based band before branching out to Audioslave.
