On May 5, shortly after announcing his new kids’ clothing line with wife Kim Kardashian, Kanye West deleted his Twitter and Instagram accounts. We now have the scoop on why.

An insider told Us Weekly that, “He wasn’t using social media that often and it wasn’t necessary for his creative process.”

Kanye has had his share of verbal battles on Twitter in the past, and it wasn’t serving him well. The source said,  “It wasn’t a healthy outlet for him. He’s in a different place now.”

Instead, the 21-time Grammy winner “is trying to focus on stuff that matters.”

Among that “stuff” is a follow up to 2016’s The Life of Pablo, which Kanye is currently recording at a mountaintop retreat in Wyoming. The source said, “He always records in different remote places. For years it was Jamaica.”

The new album, which the rapper tweeted about last year, is currently titled Turbo Grafx 16.
