After the success of King Kong’s return to the silver screen with Warner Bros’ Kong: Skull Island, the giant ape is heading to the small screen.

MarVista Entertainment and IM Global Television have joined forces on King Kong Skull Island, marking the first live-action TV show about the famous creature.

Written by Stacy Title and Jonathan Penner, the series will continue the story with a female-led cast. Deadline reports that MarVista CEO Fernando Szew said, “Jonathan and Stacy have taken a world that has enraptured audiences in all its many forms over the years and given it a contemporary, female-focused spin.”

IM Global TV president Mark Stern added, “There’s clearly a deep and abiding interest in this timeless story. We love Stacy and Jonathan’s approach to this adaptation and look forward to partnering with MarVista as we bring this gripping tale of survival and adventure to life for a new generation of Kong fans.”

The King Kong franchise is extensive, with eight feature films and a ninth coming in 2020, as well as three animated TV series.

No word yet on which network will feature the newest installment.
