Lifetime announced today that Queen Latifah has signed on to executive produce and star in Flint, an original movie about the water crisis in Flint, Michigan.

The film, directed by Bruce Beresford, also stars Betsy Brandt, Marin Ireland, and Jill Scott, who play actual activists who spoke out against the city’s toxic water. Queen Latifah’s character gets personally involved in the battle as well.

The project marks Queen Latifah’s second go-round with producers Neil Meron, Craig Zadan, and Katie Couric on a Lifetime movie. The rapper also starred in a remake of Steel Magnolias, which became the third most-watched original broadcast for the network.

Production for Flint will begin next week.
