Why Did Milo Ventimiglia Quit Instagram?

It’s been over four years since Milo Ventimiglia broke up with Instagram, and we finally have the scoop on what went wrong!

In an interview last week with the Associated Press, the This Is Us star filled us all in on what led him to say goodby to the addictive app. He said:

“It started as a place [for] a collective group of photographers and artists to share their work, and their lives. And at a certain point — after doing it for three years — I saw it change. Nobody was looking at the photos. They were asking me about my acting jobs. And I kinda went, ‘Oh, man.’”

As an avid photographer, Milo used Instagram as venue to display his personal photos, which were predominantly architecture related, with an occasion bonus selfie just because.

His final post was a picture of Los Angeles lit up at night that he took after an evening out. The caption reads, “Finito,” and was his 1,200th post, so the actor felt it was an appropriate ending point. He told AP:

“I realized, ‘Wow, this capsule is done.’ I just finished it, and I don’t need to open it back up to promote the work or anything. I felt like an artist who had a series and he just finished.” He explained, “It felt like it lost what I’d grown to love about it as a photographer, and I just randomly stopped.”

Since his love affair with Instagram ended well before his This Is Us mega-fame began, new fans are still discovering his page. Though he no longer posts, he now has 584,000 followers and counting.
