Cher is the definition of integrity. A mom, daughter, sister, actress, singer, activist, and friend, she is never going to pass up doing the right thing — even if it means dropping out of a big movie.

The 70-year actress recently dropped out of an upcoming Lifetime film Flint (based around the 2016 water crisis in Flint, Michigan) due to a “serious family issue,” Variety reported.

Now, Entertainment Weekly has said that the issue is related to her mother Georgia Holt.

“Cher’s worried about her mother’s health. She’s in her 90’s now and does not want to be far from her,” a source said to ET. “Her mother is not deathly ill, but is somewhat fragile. ”

In a statement to ET, Cher wrote: “This has been a project so near and dear to my heart and I was truly looking forward to helping tell this story. Unfortunately, I will be unable to leave Los Angeles during the scheduled filming as I am dealing with a serious family issue that prevents me from going on location for the April filming. I’m so glad that Craig and Neil [the producers] plan to move ahead and I know that this Lifetime movie will be done beautifully.”

In addition to being the star, she was also attached as an executive producer. It’s unclear whether she will even continue the role as EP.
