Snooki Inspired a New Law in the State of New Jersey

Whether she realized it or not, Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi inspired a major bill that caps the amount New Jersey public universities can pay their speakers.

The cap is now $10,000, and the bill was approved and is on its way to Governor Chris Christie’s desk, where it will be then be signed and put into law.

The whole idea began when Assemblyman John DiMaio learned that Snooki was paid $32,000 in 2011 to speak at Rutgers, and told NJ.com he “could not comprehend how that ever took place.” In fact, Snooki was paid $2,000 more than Rutgers’ commencement speak that year — who happened to be renowned author Toni Morrison. During Snooki’s speech, she told students to “study hard, but party harder.”

Rutgers still defended their choice in Snooki, saying, “[Jersey Shore] was promoted as a comedy act, not an academic program. As with any comedy show, the value of the content is subjective and students choose to attend based on their interests.”

Whether you like the show or not, at least it promoted change?! Talk about a real life Legally Blonde (well, brunette. At least we think so).
