Oh No! Amy Schumer Had to Drop Out of the ‘Barbie’ Movie

We’re totally devastated to report that Amy Schumer is no longer going to be in Sony’s live-action film Barbie, Variety discovered.

“Sadly, I’m no longer able to commit to Barbie due to scheduling conflicts,” the actress said in a statement. “The film has so much promise, and Sony and Mattel have been great partners. I’m bummed, but look forward to seeing Barbie on the big screen.”

Amy was all set to start production of the film this summer, but as it turns out she’s even busier than Barbie herself! What with a rigorous promotional tour for her new Fox comedy Snatched and all.

The thing is though, Sony had to stick to its June 29, 2018 release date seeing as Mattel, the makers of Barbie, already has merchandise in motion. And shifting the production schedule to fit Amy’s schedule would have caused serious strain for the toy company.

Thankfully there are no hard feelings: “We respect and support Amy’s decision. We look forward to bringing Barbie to the world and sharing updates on casting and filmmakers soon.”

The film doesn’t have a director yet, but apparently it has the same flavor as Splash, Enchanted, and Big — so basically a doll comes to life, or a girl is turned into a doll? Turns out, it’s said that the main character (we assume was Amy) gets kicked out of Barbieland for not being perfect enough and ends up landing a real-world adventure.

Couldn’t you see Amy playing that beautifully?

As Variety points out, it’s unknown whether the movie is going to have the same tone now. After all, Amy is in a league all in her own. Without her, it would be a different movie completely.
