RuPaul — the man, the legend — changed the face of reality TV with RuPaul’s Drag Race, and he’s about to do it again. Only this time, it’s way personal.

According to Deadline, RuPaul teamed with two production houses for a half-hour drama/comedy based on his life in 1980s New York City. Going from what we know already about Ru’s life, this is certainly going to be binge-worthy television.

So many things to draw from! From the epic nightclub Limelight (where he met his husband over twenty years ago), to the beginning of modern drag, which many say he started, this is definitely going to be history in the making.

In the 1980s, RuPaul was a prominent presence in New York City’s club and drag scene. And as we entered the ‘90s, Ru transitioned to a mainstream audience with hit songs, a modeling career, and a VH1 talk show.

Gary Lennon (Power, Orange is the New Black) is set to be writer for the show, which will also include RuPaul (who won an Emmy last year as host of Drag Race), World of Wonder, and Bad Robot (J.J. Abram’s company) as producers.

The show is soon to be offered to various channels to bid for the rights to air it, reports Deadline.

No title has been announced as of today.

The ninth season of RuPaul’s Drag Race is set to premiered this Friday on VH1.

Don’t forget to catch Drag Race judge Ross Mathews and host Wendy Williams at the pre-game party this Friday, live in New York City!
