Inside Look at James Franco’s HBO Drama About, Ahem, Porn…

HBO’s 1970s porn drama The Deuce has Mr. James Franco being the James we all know and love, and thanks to Entertainment Weekly’s first look at the series, we can share it with the world!

According to Variety, The Deuce is set in the Times Square demimonde of the 1970s and 1980s and “explores the legalization and subsequent rise of the porn industry in New York, looking into the rough-and-tumble world of midtown Manhattan until the rise of HIV, the violence of the cocaine epidemic and the renewed real estate market all ended the bawdy turbulence. The project is partly inspired by the career of twin brothers who were players in the Times Square world and became fronts for mob control of the volatile and lucrative sex industry.”

Now that sounds binge-worthy!

To make it even more interesting, James is playing twins: Frankie and Vincent in the series, which was created by the folks behind The Wire and Treme — David Simon and George Pelecanos. Maggie Gyllenhaal is another star, playing a high business prostitute named Candy.
