When Brie Larson presented Casey Affleck with the award for ‘Best Actor’ at the Oscars, the actress was far from celebratory. As the crowd clapped and stood in his honor, Brie stepped away and stood quietly. Since Casey was sued in 2010 for sexual harassment by two different women who worked with him on the movie, I’m Still Here, viewers immediately assumed that her uncharacteristic reaction was a statement against the actor. That was mere speculation, until now.

Yesterday, in a statement to Vanity Fair, Brie confirmed that her behavior was intentional. While at the premier of her new film, Kong: Skull Island, she said:

“I think that whatever it was that I did onstage kind of spoke for itself. I’ve said all that I need to say about that topic.”

Brie has been a long-time advocate for survivors of sexual assault. After playing a victim of abuse in the movie, Room, a role which won her a “Best Actress” Oscar last year, Brie went on to speak out on the cause, raising awareness, so awarding a man accused of abuse did not sit well with her!

Both lawsuits were settled out of court back in 2010, and Casey still denies the allegations.
