Only one week after finishing chemotherapy for her intense battle with breast cancer, Shannen Doherty hit the town for a good cause. The 45-year-old hosted the ‘Gratitude Gala’ for the Animal Hope and Wellness Foundation, a cause near and dear to her heart. The organization, which focuses on rescuing dogs from South Korea’s meat trade, has been a major inspiration to the actress during her illness, and she was overjoyed to be a part of the event. According to Us Weekly, Shannon told the audience:

“Cancer can be isolating and depressing, can be all-consuming. Cancer can overwhelm your life. Seeing animals being rescued touched my heart and they renew my determination to dig deep and continue my own personal fight. I wonder how I would fare faced with such death and cruelty … [Animals] encouraged me to face adversity with the same strength and grace that they display in the face of destruction.”

The ‘90210’ alum told Us Weekly she is doing well. She said:

“I feel great. I mean, I feel good, I’m super positive, I’m happy with where I’m at right now. Cancer, for me, as hard as it is, has been a blessing. It has changed who I am as a human being forever. It’s altered my life in ways I can’t even speak of.”

The star walked the red carpet with her husband Kurt Iswarienko by her side, and shared a beautiful selfie from their evening on Instagram. Take a look:

Shannen’s incredible strength has inspired many, including AHWF’s founder, Marc Ching. He told Us Weekly,

“[Shannen] doesn’t know this, but I actually went to her page and I looked at her pictures when she was going through cancer,” he said tearing up. “I said, ‘If people can be that strong in the face of death, I can do what I have to for others.’”

Way to go, Shannen! We wish you health and happiness!
