Hugh Jackman has played the role of Wolverine for 10 movies. The latest film, Logan, which opens this Friday, will be the last of them, though. Hugh stopped by The Tonight Show and told Jimmy Fallon about his decision to move on from his role of 17 years.

Hugh says he went to comedian Jerry Seinfeld two years ago seeking advice about walking away from Wolverine. Jerry is clearly no stranger to this scenario, having been the co-creator and lead character on the epic hit show Seinfeld for 9 seasons, and he gave Hugh some good advice.  “He said, ‘Look, when you creating something, it’s very important not to run yourself dry. It’s not about finishing on top necessarily, but making sure that you are creatively still have something left, which propels you into whatever is next,'” Hugh recalled.

The advice really landed for the actor, and he quickly made the decision. “I went home and I said, ‘This is it; this is the last one.’ And then the next morning, I wake up at 4 in the morning, and I record into a voice memo because I had this really strong idea for what to do for the last one; and that’s like two years ago.”

Logan, which is getting rave reviews, is set to premier on March 3. To celebrate fact that no more Wolverine means no longer having to be in ridiculously good shape, Hugh indulges in a huge bowl of pasta prepared by famous chef, Mario Batali. Enjoy the clip below:
