Gender wage inequality has certainly been in the limelight recently, and there is no better way to bring attention to the issue than hearing it out of the mouth of a major star.

Natalie Portman sat down with Marie Claire UK Edition and spoke candidly about how this wage gap has affected her personally. She said:

“I wasn’t as pissed as I should have been. I mean, we get paid a lot, so it’s hard to complain, but the disparity is crazy. I knew and I went along with it because there’s this thing with ‘quotes’ in Hollywood. His was three times higher than mine so they said he should get three times more.”

She added:

“I don’t think women and men are more or less capable, we just have a clear issue with women not having opportunities. We need to be part of the solution, not perpetuating the problem.”

A “quote” is the method used to determine how much money the actor should be given, based on the highest salary he or she made for a previous project.

Here’s hoping we will see progress on this issue in 2017!
